4th Graders Dive Into Ocean Exploration

What a fun day!  First, we had a visit from the Chambers County Dive Team.  Major Clay Stewart and Captain Jason Fuller shared all of their SCUBA equipment and several underwater dive videos.

Then, we returned to the classroom for FISH KITS,  Students were given clay and a description of the body forms and fins of an animal and they were to create what they thought the animal looked like.  They were then shown a picture of the real animal.  We had some funny looking creatures created!

Finally, we learned a song about the fins of a fish.  Check out the video below.

It was a great day of ocean explorations!

5th Grade CCATS Visit the Valley Police Department

Another exciting day in CCATS!  The 5th graders are studying an exploration unit on Forensic Science.  Chief Weldon and the Valley Police Department provided a tour of the police station and the areas where the evidence is collected, fingerprinting collected, and video analyzed.  We also had an opportunity to see the meeting area for our Mayor and Council.  There was even a surprise meeting with Mayor Leonard Riley.

Once we returned to the classroom we discovered that a crime had been committed in our very own classroom!  It was the Case of the Missing Lunch!  Students became investigators and traveled through 10 different crime scene stations to collect evidence and complete experiments.

Great job 5th graders!  Mystery Solved!

Georgia Aquarium Adventures!

The 4th Grade CCATS visited the Georgia Aquarium on Wednesday, November 20th.  It was a great day filled with explorations.  The students were able to visit five regions with many aquatic habitats.  They also were treated to a behind the scenes instructor led program where we were escorted above the huge tanks.  Students had a great view from the top.  Finally, we saw the 4D movie.  All of the students were well behaved.

54 Students traveled to the Georgia Aquarium

Students and Parents Visit Washington, D.C. and NYC

5th and 6th Grade CCATS students and their parents had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. and NYC in March.  The group flew to D.C. where they visited many monuments and memorials, The White House, The Capitol Building, Arlington National Cemetery, The National Cathedral, Mt. Vernon, and many other points of interest.  The group continued their trip by enjoying two days in the Big Apple, NYC.  The group saw the awarding winning Broadway Musical, "Wicked", toured Central Park, and went to the top of Rockefeller Center.  They also enjoyed a water taxi ride around Liberty and Ellis Islands and visited the 911 Memorial.  It was a wonderful opportunity for all that traveled.
